On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me
FIIIIIIIIIVE DER-BY YEEEEARRRRRRS!
It is my great joy to the world to announce the fifth annual Christmas Carol Derby. This weird little reindeer game and I owe five amazing holiday seasons of excessive carol-listening, debates over song merits, and generally asking "Do you hear what I hear?" to all the friends and family who were brave and bored enough to give it a try in 2020.
In honor of this momentous anniversary, I have added the following silver bells and whistles:
- Gifts That Keep on Giving: For the first and possibly only time, players may earn points multiple times for the same song! Every time you hear The 12 Days of Christmas (five golden/onion rings!) or anything by those pesky Pentatonix (penta=five), you earn five points with no limit. Note: The rule of unplanned listening still applies, so a Pentatonix-themed station/playlist would not give you points.
- Ghosts of Christmas Past: Remember all those really tough-to-find Miracles from the past 5 years? I gathered up a few of the most elusive examples and created a one-time-only high point category for them.
- Awkward Family Dinners: If you've played every year, you might remember the category "Tried to Be Good," which featured songs some of us found delightful and others found obnoxious. I brought it back just for this year under a new name.
- Nights of Lights: This year Hanukkah falls within the dates of Carol Derby, so I though we could all enjoy some klezmer tunes.
Before you head down to look at the list, please review The Rules of Play as we do have updates from last year. Did you go look? Did you really? Santa Claus sees everything, so you're not getting any presents if you're lying right now.
